Purpose of the Position:

This position leads the implementation of the Fruit Trees Value Chain Component in Douma – Rural Damascus. The Team Leader is responsible for field planning, technical supervision, and ensuring the quality of sustainable agriculture interventions, demonstration fields, agricultural nurseries, and the empowerment of farmers and women within the fruit tree component.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and oversee all activities related to the Fruit Trees Component, including nurseries, distribution of agricultural inputs, training, and Farmer Field Schools (FFSs).
  • Supervise the implementation of drip irrigation, organic fertilization, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and intercropping with participating farmers.
  • Provide direct technical supervision to Field Officers and ensure coordination between them and the project offices.
  • Deliver technical support and day-to-day guidance to the Farmers Association Board (FAB) members and beneficiary farmers.
  • Prepare and review monthly progress reports and submit them to the Project Manager in coordination with the MEAL department.
  • Ensure adherence to quality, health, and safety standards at field sites.
  • Coordinate with the Directorate of Agriculture and local authorities to ensure alignment of activities with governmental plans.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the agricultural component and ensure data collection and integration with the MEAL system.
  • Participate in outreach activities and agricultural exhibitions to showcase project results and strengthen market linkages.

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in Agricultural Engineering or Agricultural Sciences (specialization in horticulture or related field).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing agricultural projects or providing technical supervision of orchard and fruit tree activities.
  • Strong knowledge of climate-smart agricultural practices (intercropping, organic fertilization, IPM, modern irrigation).
  • Experience managing field teams and coordinating with farmers’ associations or community-based organizations.
  • Excellent skills in report writing and field follow-up.
  • Good computer skills (MS Office – Excel – Word – PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in a fast-changing environment and collaborate with local stakeholders.
  • Previous experience with humanitarian or development organizations is an asset.
